Contact Points

Ball Points

The first step in proper pitch line measurement is achieved by selecting contact points best suited for each type of thread form and pitch. Whenever possible, contacts made from Tungsten carbide are furnished in a variety of sizes to meet the most exacting standards of long life and consistent pitch line contact. These are supplied with either plain shank for Allen Lead Gauges or threaded shank for Allen Taper Gauges and other various applications.

Cone Points
Precise thread depth measurement of V-threads will not permit the cone point to come into contact with any portion of the thread flanks. This is achieved by precision manufacturing of the contact cone angle as well as the minimum end radius. Tool steel is best suited for this configuration, however, Tungsten carbide may be used to achieve longer life. Cone point wear and damage can be verified on the appropriate Allen Height Standard.

Measurements of API round thread are achieved through the use of a special double-cone design. The outer cone centers the inner contact cone for rapid, accurate readings.

Special contacts
Special configurations and long reach contacts require the use of high-grade tool steel. These include the DP 12015 notch point and SP 12015 swivel point used in the calibration of UT equipment.

Refer to the reverse side for appropriate contact points when checking API connections. Numerous other sizes and styles are available upon request for special and proprietary connections.
